Mission Codename Grazie mille!
Each Sunday, we feature an elite-level wine - at a very special price. These are rare, higher-end wines that our deserving Operatives have been asking us to procure for them. I’m thrilled to bring you our latest Super Spy Sunday wine!
Today’s wine is one of the very best wines that we’ve featured in these glorious last eight years.
This Tenuta Sette Ponti 2013 Oreno Red Wine is an extremely elegant and delicious Tuscan Bordeaux varietal blend of Merlot, Cabernet and Petit Verdot.
Agent Red purchased every last bottle of today’s wine and if there is any left over, he promises to secure every last bottle for his personal collection.
This is a wine that takes a little while to open up, so be sure to decant for at least an hour or swirl with gusto and see how the wine evolves right in your glass. You’ll be handsomely rewarded for your patience.
Shy on opening, but when this wine opens up, it screams - with a brilliant, complex and elegant nose of wild raspberry, black cherry, blackberry, plum, spice, cedar, leather, cocoa, pomegranate, dried tobacco and subtle dried herbs.
Plush and elegant - and exploding onto the palate with ripe flavors of blackberry, raspberry, cassis, plum and black cherry out in front. As the wine settles onto the palate, additional flavors emerge, including cocoa, sweet oak, cedar, supple leather, black licorice, grilled fig and subtle spice.
Wine critic James Suckling has this to say about today’s wine:
“A wine with terrific texture and balance. Very polished tannins that are ethereal and harmonious. Full-bodied, yet fresh, this is about combining elegance with power. It’s so Latour in style. Excellent depth. Better in 2017, but so fine now. Blend of cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and petit Verdot.” - 97 points - James Suckling
