Mission Briefing
Ranger Red
Today’s 2012 Dry Creek Valley Red Field Blend is a delectable, crowd-pleasing wine that balances sweet fruit against earth, spice and minerals - making the wine very well-rounded and very pleasing to a broad array of wine preferences.
This wine is approachable, juicy, balanced and really fun to drink. If you are looking for a budget wine for an afternoon soiree, or a great weeknight wine that won’t break the bank, this wine is an excellent choice.
Here’s what respected wine writer, Vino Votary (his code name), has to say about the wine:
“If there was ever a wine made just for burger lovers, this is it (and my taste buds go straight for a bacon blue burger, medium rare, of course). Blends showcase a winemaker’s style, and Bradford Mountain showcases the Zinfandel that put Dry Creek Valley on the map. Syrah adds a velvety note, and the Petite Sirah adds the spicy finale.”
Very highly recommended!
Tasting Profile
Look: | Ruby red, from the slightly opaque core out to the pretty pink edges. |
---|---|
Smell: | Lush and full, with bold cherry and blackberry out in front. These are quickly followed up by plum preserve, sweet baking spice, cherry chocolate cordial and a hint of black pepper. |
Taste: | Juicy sweetness of Bing cherry juice is supported by darker, more rich flavors of stewed black fruit, dried tobacco leaf, baking spice and sweet cedar. |
Finish: | Juicy leads to dark and rich as sweet flavors take a long time to tail off and transition to savory. At the very end, integrated medium tannins dry the cheeks. |
Pairing: | This is a great burger wine if there ever was one. Enjoy with a loaded, grilled burger with all of your favorite fixins’. |
