J. Cole Wines 2005 [TOP SECRET] Syrah

What We Say 2005 [TOP SECRET] Syrah

SECRET VINEYARD ALERT!

We’d love to tell you what famous grower grew the grapes that made up this great J. Cole Syrah, but then, you know…

Sometimes wineries and growers keep secrets from the wine buying public. In the case of this particular wine, this is to your benefit. Wine maker Jene Chapenar, in top secret negotiations with a fabled local grower, was able to procure a small quantity of grapes that usually find their way into very expensive wines.

The [CENSORED] Vineyards in the beautiful Russian River Valley in Sonoma County California are famous for producing huge Zinfandels costing $200 a bottle or more. Other varietals, such as Carignane and Syrah also thrive in this cool river environment.

J. Cole wines are tenderly hand-crafted in very limited numbers with less than 100 cases of each varietal produced each year. Also, J. Cole wines are only available in select restaurants and Sonoma County wines stores. We got our hands on some just for you.

While this is a ready to drink wine that is clean and fresh tasting, we did find ourselves wishing for a bit more ooomph. We trusted Jene’s experience and instinct enough to feature this wine here, and we have personally added a few cases to our own archives. We can’t wait to try this wine again in a few months.

We’re not trying to over-hype this wine, but if you are looking for a buy-and-hold wine that should improve with a little age, be sure to get a few bottles before it sells out.

Accept this mission, and be happy. This is a really good wine that should be great in a few months!

About This Wine:

Winemaker Jene Chapanar calls this wine “…a ready to drink wine that is my most balanced Syrah to date. It has phenomenal fruit forwardness and great tannins.”

Jene declares this wine ready to drink now but predicts additional greatness with another 3 months in the bottle.

“This wine drinks clean right out of the bottle, today. Hold it for a few months and you’ll see it develop even more character. This wine has a freshness with massive fruit. Its just plain FUN to drink and it pairs with almost anything. More approachable than cabs or zins, this [CENSORED] Vineyard Syrah is juicy and delicious!”

About J. Cole Wines:

The focus of j.cole is to produce syrahs and zins from single vineyards. Working under my mother’s family name of cole and with my self being the cellar rat, winemaker and everything else. Working with lots of 3 tons or less the fruit is then fermented in 1 ton lots. Pressed off into barrel using about 25 % new French oak and are aged a minimum of 16 months then bottled unfiltered and unfined.
