2011 Argonaut Red Wine
Red Blend •Kick Ranch Vineyard
California: Sonoma County
Today’s Overland 2011 Argonaut Red Wine is a delicious 91 point (Wine Enthusiast) wine that was made by winemaker Glenn Alexander, who learned his chops at Chateau Montelena, Preston Winery and others.
Glenn is also the founder of Bacchus Vineyard Management which farms several hundred acres of premium grapes for such iconic wineries as Paul Hobbs, Kosta Browne, and Pahlmeyer and works with several artisan wine producers including Bevan Cellars, Bedrock, Enkidu, and Loxton.
This wine is very full and fragrant on the nose, with Blueberry preserve, grilled plum, smoky Bing cherry, wild raspberry, ripe strawberry, smoked meat, pepper and cinnamon.
Darkly juicy on the palate, with ripe fruit juices of blackberry, strawberry and blueberry out in front. These flavors are followed by supple leather, tobacco leaf, spice box, black tea, dusty cocoa and a hint of pepper.
This wine is a delicious, elegant and delectable steal at today’s 28% off price. Don’t miss out on this one!
Here’s what the Wine Press has to say:
“This rough and rowdy combo of 38% Syrah, 35% Grenache, 19% Mourvèdre and 8% Petite Sirah is rough around the edges in ramshackle savory dirt flavor yet nicely smoothed over in juicy blue and black fruit, meaty tannin and an expertly concocted peppery finish.” - 91 points - Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast (4/1/2015)
91 Points - Connoisseurs’ Guide
This wine has won Gold Medals from the SF Chronicle, Riverside Int’l and Orange County Wine Society Competitions of 2015
Beautiful Byzantium (purple) hues, from the slightly darker heart of the wine, out to the gem-like edges.
Blueberry preserve, grilled plum, smoky Bing cherry, wild raspberry, ripe strawberry, smoked meat, pepper and cinnamon.
Blackberry, strawberry and blueberry out in front. These flavors are followed by supple leather, tobacco leaf, spice box, black tea, dusty cocoa and a hint of pepper.
Dark fruits fade to reveal leather, spice and tobacco as chewy tannins coat the palate.
We’ll be enjoying this one with a French Dip or a nice, tender, seared steak.
