Mission Codename Tinker, Taylor, Merlot, Spy

Today’s Kendall-Jackson 2006 Highland Estates Taylor Peak Merlot is a 92 point (Wine Enthusiast Magazine), limited-production, limited-availability treat. Unfortunately, it is selling very quickly and we don’t have don’t have very much left. Get yours… while you can.

Deeply aromatic, with bold, rich aromas of Black cherry, smoky blueberry, plum compote, blackberry preserve, cured meats, summer forest floor, anise, sandalwood, cigar box and cracked pepper. This wine is incredibly delicious. It displays layer upon layer of rich flavors, including stewed blackberry and plum preserve, blackberry jam, wild blueberry, smoky Bing cherry, cigar box, dried fall leaves, cured meats, brown spice and a hint of cracked pepper.

We scooped up every last bottle that we could, but we will sell out in short order. We hope that you don’t miss out…

–Accolades–

“It’s all there with this rich Merlot. Fabulously lush in currants, mocha and cedar, it also displays great balance and charm. The tannins are superfine. Drink this beauty now through 2010.” - 92 points - Steve Heimoff, Wine enthusiast - (7/1/2009)

~

“The seductive 2006 Merlot Taylor Peak exhibits attractive coffee bean, berry fruit, and smoky characteristics. Made from 100% estate grown fruit and aged 17 months in 100% French oak, it is all that a Merlot should be.

As I wrote last year, despite a production of two million bottles of the Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay, 110,000 bottles of the Vintner’s Reserve Merlot, and 170,000 bottles of the Vintner’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, these are all good as well as value-priced wines. The third level in the Kendall-Jackson hierarchy is the Highland Estates cuvees, all essentially single vineyard wines from some of Jess Jackson’s finest sites…. The Bordeaux varietal blends are all well-made wines, but except for the 2006 Merlot Taylor Peak (1,500 cases), production ranges from a low of 340 cases… to 870 cases…“ - 90 points - Robert Parker - Dec, 2008
