Mission Codename Synergy
Believe it or not, today marks the first time in our eight-year history that we are showcasing a wine from the prestigious, iconic Penfolds. We Wine Spies love their wines, but we haven’t been able to offer you one yet at the sort of prices that you are used to. Until today!
Today’s Penfolds 2011 Bin 138 is a blend of 65% Shiraz, 20% Grenache and 15% Mataro (that’s Australian for Mourvèdre, Mate!). It’s a racy, delicious, bold and extraordinarily food friendly wine that you are sure to love. At 50% off, you can love a whole lot of it!
This wine is very aromatic, with a nose that is filled with cherry pie, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry and pomegranate, balanced against spiced black cherry, nutmeg, cigar box, anise and black pepper.
On the palate, the wine is bold and bright with vibrant wild strawberry, blackberry candy, spiced cherry candy, cranberry, coffee bean, baker’s chocolate, vanilla, cedar, white pepper and a hint of black licorice.

What the wine press has to say…
“A structured and balanced blend of dark fruit, smoke and a touch of spice on the finish. Elegant and full-bodied, but not heavy. Some dark spice on the finish. Highly recommended.” - 92 points - Natalie Maclean
~
“This is a full-bodied, impressively textured example of a traditional Rhône-style blend. It’s fruit-forward on the nose and palate, driven by notes of black cherries, plums and apricots, but folds in enough black olive and mocha shadings to give it a balancing savory edge. Drink 2015–2023.” - 91 points - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Enthusiast
