Codename:

The King of Piedmont

Today’s Tenuta L’Illuminata 2010 Colbertina Barbera d’Alba DOC is a fantastic, food-fabulous, old world delight that is one steal of a deal at 40% off. This delicious Piedmont Barbera hails from the 19th-century origin Tenuta L’Illuminata vineyard that sits smack dab in the middle of Alba and Barolo.

With all of the fantastic California wines that we have gained access to over the years, imports may seem to be largely out in the cold. You should know, though, that when we find a great import, like today’s special 91 point Italian treat, I always make it available to you.

We’re proud to make today’s available at a great price, so please be sure to stock up… if you’re looking for a very food-friendly wine with plenty of intrigue and character.

Tenuta Illuminata is currently headed by Guido Folonari, who is heir to one of the most historical Italian wine families. His commitment to producing wines that express the best virtues of their terroir is apparent in today’s delicious offering.

Complex and lively on the nose with aromas of dried cherry, dried blackberry and dried currant that lead the way. These are followed closely by baker’s chocolate, violets, dried rose petal, toasted oak, dried leaves and subtle exotic brown spice.

On the palate, you’ll revel in bright flavors of tart cherry candy, dried raspberry, dried leaves, dried rose petals, dusty bramble, dark chocolate, cedar, exotic spice and white pepper.

Abondanza!

What the Wine Press has to say:

“A round, fruity red with dried berries, chocolate and hints of cedar character. Full and savory. Ripe citrus acidity. “ - 91 points - James Suckling, 3/2/15.
