The Champion
In anticipation of our upcoming annual Wine Spies Wine Intrigue Awards, I thought that I would bring you an impressive wine from one of my very favorite winemakers, Mitch Cosentino.
Mitch has the honor of being the only winemaker that has won two of our Winemaker of the Year awards. He deserves it. His wines are fantastic.
On the nose, you’ll find bold Bing cherry, cherry cordial, sweet spice, black pepper, cherry bark, graphite, cassis, bramble bush and a hint of flinty mineral.
The wine is juicy and bright on entry with flavors of Bing cherry, raspberry and Alpine strawberry leading the way. These bright flavors are followed by darker, more serious flavors of blackberry, cassis, sweet tobacco, river rock, dark spice and toasted oak.
Today’s 2011, which hails from a troublesome year, is a bright, juicy and complex treat. We encourage you to partake of this very highly recommended wine - from our winningest winemaker of these last eight years.
