What the wine press has to say:
“The 2009 vintage was one of the best of its class in this AVA. Our cabernet is a shining example of the near-perfect 09 growing season. I use this term sparingly but this wine was a complete berry bomb comprised of blackberry, raspberry, boysenberry and a little stone fruit – peach flambé, apricot, and a touch of mission black fig. Floral notes of bay laurel and eucalyptus comprise an excellent harmony to back the rest of this monster.
Eucalyptus trees line this unique St. Helena vineyard sight and may explain the distinctive nose of a touch of eucalyptus. While the fruit shines through this wine, minerality of crushed rock and wet granite are subtly present on the nose.
The palate of this wine is certainly dominated by anise, molasses, prune, dried date, and extracted rich flavors. The wine finishes with dried dark fruits, extracted flavors, supple tannins and a touch of sandalwood and fresh pipe tobacco.
The finish is delicately settled with subtle notes of anise, black pepper, and exciting bursts of fresh flowers blooming on a summer day. The wine is certainly full bodied but it boasts a feistiness and femininity that make it truly special. Drink now through 2020.” - Hoby Wedler
