What the wine press has to say:
93 points - Hoby Wedler - “The 2010 James-Blake St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon is a full-bodied wine that does great justice to the genuine quality of wines from the California Napa Valley. It is rich, supple, and ready to be enjoyed now but could easily be cellared for many years to come.
The bouquet of this wine is woody with smoky poplar and walnut woods with vanilla extract, oak, and cloves lingering near the back. The smoky character of the nose makes this wine perfect with cured or smoked meats. The wine is extremely fruit-forward, showing Santa Rosa Plum, Dried Bing Cherry with a touch of Berry with floral notes of lilac, jasmine, gardenia, and maple. Hints of citrus, Buddha’s Hand Fruit, Rose pedal, sandalwood, clove, and dried mango.
The palate of this unique and delicious wine comprises blackberry, dried fig, and date with a little Pine. Prune, soy, stone fruit, and a bit of plum dominate the mid-palate. The wine finishes with a uniquely special minerality of wet rocks, wet pavement, crushed oyster shell, and wet forest just after a heavy rain. The wine leaves you thirsting for more with flavors of fresh pink jasmine, earl grey tea, and huge tannins.
Drink now through 2025.”
