Mission Codename Duck, Duck, GOLD

The wine gods have graced us with a real treat, today, the stunning Canard Vineyard 2012 Vintner’s Blend Napa Valley Red Wine.

This wine is only available at a handful of higher-end restaurants, where it sells for $23 a glass. Because we have a special relationship with Canard, this fantastic wine is yours for 50% off.

This wine bursts with bold, balanced aromas of black cherry, mulberry, mixed dried herbs, cured meats, grilled plum, cigar box and dark spice.

Flavors are juicy and delicious, with big Bing cherry, raspberry, and blackberry that fill the palate. These are quickly followed by dark spice, dark minerals, cocoa dust, hard leather, black pepper and dried tobacco leaf.

Top Secret P.S.: Winemaker Brian Graham attended the University of Bordeaux and then worked at a handful of small Chateaux in Bordeaux and Burgundy where he developed his unique and wonderful style of winemaking.

He was influenced, in particular, by his time at Chateau [REDACTED] (rhymes with Bordeaux but we can’t call them by name).

Please don’t miss out on this very highly recommended wine. It’s a true delight.

What the wine press has to say:

93 points - Michael Cervin - “Classic Bordeaux blends hailing from Napa are not uncommon; what is uncommon is to find one that truly represents a traditional blend, but also promises compatibility with food and, quite simply, is a pleasure to drink.

Canard has been effortlessly crafting structured and balanced wines for years and their newest addition to their portfolio is the Vintner’s Blend, which includes Cabernet Sauvignon (42%), Merlot (36%), Cabernet Franc (21%) and Petit Verdot (1%). Grown in Calistoga and aged 19 months in both new and neutral French oak, the result is a wine that is seamless and graceful with nothing out of place, sort of like a restrained opulence.

The nose offers typical blackberry, blueberry and dark cherry hints, but it hits the palate with soft tannins and lingers in the mid palate with cassis, black cherry, cedar and a wisp of mocha and mint.

The undercurrent of acidity allows tremendous food pairing options and the oak treatment is judicious, meaning this wine will not overpower your meal. Canard turned out just 517 cases of this wine, which not only provides a stellar value at this price, but allows you bragging rights since Canard wines are not easy to get your hands on.”
