Here’s what Agent Red said about today’s wine: _“When I tasted today’s Corkscrew Wines 2014 Single Vineyard Sonoma Coast Chardonnay, I knew that I had a superstar on my hands. When I convened my latest tasting panel, I decided to have a little fun… I conducted a blind comparison between this wine, and a really lovely Chardonnay from Rombauer.”
“I placed today’s wine, and Rombauer’s 2014 Home Ranch Carneros Chardonnay in paper bags - and poured both wines for my panel members. Five out of six preferred today’s wine over the $75 Rombauer. Our sixth panelist enjoyed them equally.”
Today’s Corkscrew Chardonnay is incredibly rich and bright on the nose, with balanced, wonder-filled aromas of candied pear, green apple, hazelnut, vanilla, citrus, pineapple, butterscotch and subtle light spice.
On the palate, this wine shows off gorgeous, balanced flavors of pear, white peach, green apple, green fig, toasted hazelnut, lemon meringue, pineapple, lemon and a hint of white spice.
At this price, today’s very highly recommended wine is a true Ultra QPR bargain.
What the wine press has to say:
93 points - Beverage Testing Institute - “Light gold color. Bright, roasted aromas of roasted nuts, grilled apples, pineapples, brown butter and pickling spices with a satiny, tangy, dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body and a tingling, complex, medium-long caramelized citrus, vanilla toffee, and delicate spices finish with fine tannins and moderate oak.
A big, brawny chardonnay with lots of tangy fruit and complimentary spicy, smoky oak.”
Dark golden yellow, with a thick, heavy surface that settles very quickly after swirling.
Candied pear, green apple, hazelnut, vanilla, citrus, pineapple, butterscotch and subtle light spice.
Pear, white peach, green apple, green fig, toasted hazelnut, lemon meringue, pineapple, lemon and a hint of white spice.
Silky smooth on entry, then softly grippy as the wine coats the palate. Plush tannins take several moments to appear, giving the wine an eventual crushed velvet feel.
We’ll enjoy ours with risotto with wild mushrooms and Italian sausage, but this food friendly wine would also pair beautifully with fish, fowl, pork, strong cheeses or other rich appetizers.
