Mission Codename The Songbird
Today’s Waxwing 2013 Spring Hill Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is a 91 point Burgundy-meets-Cali Pinot that we adore.
Winemaker Scott Sisemore left behind the comforts of winemaking at Ravenswood Winery, Rosenblum Cellars, Pelligrini Family Vineyards and others to focus his efforts on the creation of his own Waxwing wines.
On the nose, this wine breathes aromas of cherry cola, bramble, black cherry, chocolate covered cherry, dusty dried mushroom, subtle savory spice, oak and a very hint of savory herb.
Burgundy meets California on the palate, as flavors of plum, black cherry, raspberry, dried herbs, kola nut, dried wild mushroom, cedar, fresh fig, and spiced cherry candy.
Scott makes a nice variety of wines under his Waxwing label and you can bet that we’ll be showing more of them in the coming months. We’re really crazy about today’s wine and we can’t wait to feature more of them. When we find a winemaker that makes such unique and delicious wines, we tend to stick with them.
Enjoy!

Here’s what the wine press has to say:
91 points - Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast - “From the cooler reaches of the Petaluma Gap, a sub-area of the larger Sonoma Coast that is awaiting its own appellation status, this Pinot was made with 25% whole-cluster berries, giving it a rough-hewn, earthy edginess that’s appealing in the glass.
Tightly wound cherry and cranberry complete the picture, with a taste of dried herb and black tea on the lengthy finish.”
Remember, we offer FREE Temperature-Controlled shipping during the hot summer months. Add optional ice packs if your local area is hot, and your wine will arrive in great condition!
