When Bugay invited us back for another cellar raid, we went right to work on seeking out another vintage of their flagship Les Rocheuses Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon… and we scored! They let us have every last case of their perfectly aged 2006 Les Rocheuses Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
We’re offering the very last cases of this wine - so hurry. We will sell out of this wine before the end of the day today. You’ll never have this chance again.
This Cabernet is so dense and dark it is almost black, leading all the way to the edge where it is encircled by a ring of auburn. The aromas to be found on this aged-to-perfection wine include dried fig, plum compote, rhubarb, blackberry preserves, and fruitcake - a surprising amount of fruit! On the palate, the fruit takes a different tone with cranberry, pomegranate, tart cherry, cardamom, and potpourri. Time has sanded off the edges on this formidable Cabernet. It’s a robust wine with grippy tannin that has produced a structured wine full of intrigue. It lingers on the palate for ages as you enjoy an incredible finish. This would be the perfect wine for an elegant entree of French-ribbed lamb chops sitting on a bed of mashed potatoes mixed with fresh parsley and chives.
This wine was made by our pal, Randall Watkins, who we’ve come to greatly respect. All of his wines are well loved by us here at Wine Spies HQ and, of course, by our Operatives. The last time we sat down with Randall, here is what he said about his winemaking philosophy:
“I am committed to crafting limited production wines from the concentrated fruit of hillside vineyards. I believe that vineyard location, soil composition, climate, and slope are key factors in creating wines of extraordinary quality and distinction. My goal is to produce wines of great balance with regard to ripe fruit, quality tannin, and natural acidity. All of my winemaking efforts go toward producing wines that are rich and intensely flavored, reflecting both their origin in the vineyard and the balance and elegance of small lot winemaking.”
His work for Bugay Vineyards is, in our opinion, a work of art.
