2012 is really proving to be one of the best vintages on record from the Napa Valley. Today’s wine is an elegant, deeply aromatic, abundantly flavorful masterpiece from Brooks Painter, who has held winemaking posts at some of the world’s most prestigious wineries, including the Robert Mondavi Winery, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, V. Sattui, Castello di Amorosa, Leeward Winery and Felton-Empire Vineyards.
Abundant aromas jump from the glass. These include black cherry, blackberry compote, grilled fig, darkly toasted oak, dark chocolate, smoky blueberry, cassis, twigs, dark spice, subtle tobacco and subtle cracked peppercorn.
Deeply concentrated on the palate, with dense flavors of blackberry preserve, plum, black cherry, cassis and smoky cherry out in front. Follow-on flavors include toasted anise seed, pomegranate, cherry pipe tobacco, baker’s chocolate, cocoa dust and subtle brown spice.
Take our advice and stock up on this beautiful, ready-to-drink and built-to-age wine.
