The Progeny
If Aussie Shiraz and Spanish Tempranillo had a baby, the baby would be this truly outstanding - and very VERY highly recommended wine.
Awarded 94 points by the esteemed James Halliday, the Mr. Riggs 2013 Yacca Paddock Tempranillo is a boldly juicy delight with equal parts delectable fruit, earthy goodness and a bodacious personality.
Rich, full aromas leap from the glass, with bold stewed black cherry, blackberry preserve, smoky blueberry, cured beef, black pepper, black licorice, bacon, cedar, and tobacco.
Bold flavors cascade onto the palate, with smoked blackberry, black cherry, blueberry compote, smoked meats, resin, dried mushroom, molasses, cedar, tobacco and mixed spice.
Agent Red said of this wine: “This wine is up there in my list of the best wines that I’ve tasted in these last 10 years of sleuthing out the world’s best wines for you. This wine isn’t your typical Tempranillo. Instead, it is a distinctly Aussie interpretation. Fans of traditional Tempranillo may be surprised, but certainly not disappointed!”
Reserve yours now, before this ‘baby’ is stolen away by our other operatives!

Here’s what the wine press has to say:
94 points - James Halliday’s Wine Companion 2016 - “Silky smooth with just enough attitude to set it apart. Flavors are in the cherry-plum and cola realm, though notes of peppercorn and chocolate, as modest as they are, are important aspects of the wine’s personality.
Ultra fine-grained tannin, edges of mineral and finesse through the finish are all quality markers. Medium-weight, but it has presence.”
~
93 points - Beverage Testing Institute (May 2015) - “Violet color. Bold, sweet, spicy herbal aromas of honeyed blueberries, menthol-mint, and mocha toffee with a silky, lively, fruity medium-to-full body and a tingling, complex, medium-long berry pie, spiced watermelon, vanilla nuts, and eucalyptus finish with crunchy tannins and light oak.
A spicy Tempranillo treat that is uniquely Australian.”
