The Sweet Life

Doce Robles Winery has quickly become an Operative favorite. Their juicy, extracted, well-priced wines are great solo-sippers - but they are especially great as pairing companions.

Today, we’re thrilled to be featuring their delicious, budget-minded Doce Robles 2010 Winery Estate Robles Rojos. This is a juicy, flavor-packed wine that bursts with dark fruits, backed up by earth and spice to give the wine a lively feel, with great balance.

The small-production Doce Robles Winery is the very first winery to have appeared on the now winery-heavy Highway 46. Doce Roles’ neighbors include the likes of Peachy Canyon, Sextant and Castoro Cellars… to name just a few.

Doce Robles planted their vineyards in 1996, to Barbera, Zinfandel, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. Primitivo, Petite Sirah and Malbec were also planted in 2010 and 2012.

This wine is sweet and rich on the nose, with mixed berry compote of blueberry, blackberry, mulberry, chocolate covered cherry, Santa Rosa plum, grilled mission fig, spice, black tea, cedar and toasty cedar.

Juicy flavors explode onto the palate, with fruits in the lead. Blackberry, black cherry, Alpine strawberry, plum, grilled fig, mixed dark spice, darkly toasted oak, subtle tobacco leaf and smoky blueberry.

At 47% off, this wine is an Ultra QPR steal. At such a low price, this is also a wine to stock up on. Have some on hand to impress your guests - without breaking the bank.

Tasting Profile

Look:

Dark red currant hues, with a darker heart and wide ruby hued edges. Tall, skinny tears move swiftly down the glass wall after a good swirl.

Smell:

Blueberry, blackberry, mulberry, chocolate covered cherry, Santa Rosa plum, grilled mission fig, spice, black tea, cedar and toasty cedar.

Taste:

Blackberry, black cherry, Alpine strawberry, plum, grilled fig, mixed dark spice, darkly toasted oak, subtle tobacco leaf and smoky blueberry.

Finish:

Juicy and light-weight on entry, then quickly grippy as plush tannins take hold at the edges of the palate. After the juicy flavors coat the palate, flavors of spice, oak and tobacco take their place. These persist for a long time before they gradually fade away.

Pairing:

Enjoy this juicy blend with backyard BBQ, spaghetti, grilled steaks, or other rich foods. The bright acids, juicy fruits and earthy components make this wine great for bolder pairings.
