Mission Codename When it works...
Today’s Clif Family Winery 2013 ‘Gary’s Improv’ Howell Mountain Zinfandel comes from the beautiful Summit Lake Vineyard, which sits 2000’ above the floor of California’s Napa Valley.
This is the winery’s flagship Zin. It is a rich, extracted wine with plenty of fruit and characteristic spice.
Dark and fruit-filled on the nose, with blackberry, black cherry, plum, cassis, cranberry, mixed spice, sweet tobacco and black pepper. Darkly juicy on the palate, with rich plum jam, blackberry preserve, cedar, briar patch, dried fall leaves, sweet tobacco, spice box and black pepper.
Napa Valley’s Howell Mountain AVA, established in 1984, is known for its wines of deep concentration and intensity. The higher elevation and relatively flat aspect make the location great for Zinfandel vineyards. The first vines in the Howell Mountain area were planted in the 1880s.
The Summit Lake Vineyard, where today’s wine was born, was founded by Bob and Sue Brakesman in 1971. The winery’s 13 acres produce highly prized Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah and - most notably - Zinfandel.
These are the final cases of this wonderful wine, so please reserve yours quickly - before we run out.
Cheers!
