Mission Codename VE-RI-TAS
Today’s 94 point - Miro Cellars 2013 Russian River Valley Mancini Vineyard Century Old Vines Zinfandel is our Wine Spies 2015 Intrigue Awards winner for Top Zinfandel and, in a word, extraordinary.
Today’s Miro Cellars 2013 Russian River Valley Mancini Vineyard Century Old Vines Zinfandel is, in a word, extraordinary. Especially when you consider the sub-$25 price tag. This ancient vine Zinfandel is ready to drink now, and it will only get better over the next several years.
This wine is very highly recommended!
On the nose, this wine is heady and aromatic, with bold spiced black cherry, blackberry preserve, blueberry, Avalon plum, pipe tobacco, dried fall leaves, sweet spice and black pepper.
On the palate, it is jammy and outrageously delicious - with blackberry, black cherry and blueberry compote, plum reduction, red currant, cranberry, cocoa dust, spice and subtle cracked pepper.
Miro is like some sort of wine wizard, crafting wines that are exceptional and ready to drink soon after bottling. How he achieves this must be magic. Enjoy now, or cellar a few bottles for the next few years. We’ll feel lucky if we can squirrel away some of this extremely food-friendly wine for the coming fall and winter holidays.
Enjoy!
