2011 'Nelligan Road' Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon •Nelligan Road Vineyard
California: Sonoma County: Sonoma Valley
Today’s Super Spy Sunday selection is a single vineyard Napa Cabernet from our friends at Deering Wine. Their Deering Wine 2011 ‘Nelligan Road’ Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a 91 point (Wine Enthusiast) wine that we’re all wild about here at Wine Spies HQ!
This wine is very highly recommended.
This wine is dark and full on the nose, with bold black cherry, smoky plum, cassis, black licorice, sweet tobacco, dried leather, mixed spice, cedar and toasty oak.
Incredible flavors cascade onto the palate, with cherry, blackberry, smoky blueberry, plum, and cassis out in front. These are followed by sweet wood, spice box, cherry tobacco, cocoa dust and dried leather.
We first featured Deering in 2013. Back then they became an instant hit with our Operatives. Unfortunately, this small-production winery usually sells all of their wine directly to wine club members, leaving very little for wine merchants like us.
Fortunately for us, Deering loves The Wine Spies as much as we love them!
Here’s what the wine press has to say:
91 points - Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast - “Juicy, fruity and approachable, this black fruit-driven Cab is yummy and enjoyable now, having spent perhaps additional time in bottle before release. With a licorice edge to the finish, it offers both herbal, savory tones in addition to ripe sweetness.”
Gold Medal - 2014 Sonoma County Harvest Fair.
Gold Medal - 2015 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo International Wine Competition.
Deep and dark, with sanguine red hues, from the dark edges to the darker core. Super skinny legs move very slowly down the glass wall after a good swirl.
Bold black cherry, smoky plum, cassis, black licorice, sweet tobacco, dried leather, mixed spice, cedar and toasty oak.
Cherry, blackberry, smoky blueberry, plum, cassis, sweet wood, spice box, cherry tobacco, cocoa dust and dried leather.
Elegant, softly drying and slightly grippy as soft to medium tannins press flavors into the far corners of the palate.
Mediterranean lamb dishes, grilled pork loin, spaghetti with meat sauce? All of these things and more are easy to pair with this very food-friendly Cabernet.
