Nature's Gift
Today’s Super Spy Sunday Selection is the Hensteeth 2012 Link Vineyard Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, an incredible wine - and an incredible value. Our 50% off price makes this luxurious wine one to stock up on.
We’ve come to love the winemaking style and talents of Chris Taddei, who consistently delivers the hits with his characteristically elegant, bold and juicy wines.
Today’s Cabernet recently earned a stellar 96 points from Chris Sawyer. That’s a score that we wholeheartedly agree with.
Aromas leap from the glass, hitting your nose before you lift your glass. Aromas of Alpine strawberry, blackberry jam, cassis, tobacco leaf, dried fall leaves, twigs, red licorice, spice, oak and chocolate covered cherry.
Richly layered, dense and robust, with flavors of blackberry juice, smoky blueberry, black cherry, cassis, black licorice, toasted tobacco leaf, cigar box and dark spice.
This wine drinks beautifully now, but we’ll be enjoying ours for a decade or more. Reserve yours soon, as our allocation of this VERY highly recommended wine was also very limited. That’s what happens when a wine receives a really high score - it suddenly becomes scarce. Just like Hensteeth!

Here’s what the wine press has to say:
96 points - “Sommelier to the Stars” Christopher Sawyer - “Dark, rich and robust wine with alluring aromas of dark fruits, blue fruits, mineral and layers of spice.
In the glass, the flavor profile is highlighted with generous notes of ripe blackberry, black currant, blueberry, cocoa, black truffle, cinnamon, smoke, mineral, chewy tannins, and a long, lingering finish. Overall, a deep and complex wine that continues to open up with more time in the glass.
Food pairings: Risotto with wild mushrooms, gourmet mac n’ cheese with sharp cheddar, duck breast with huckleberry sauce, hearty stews, grilled red meats, dark chocolate.”
Tasting Profile
Look: | Darkest purple, with an inky dark heart. After a good swirl, the wine settles quickly, leaving behind tall, skinny legs that stain the glass as the crawl slowly downward. |
---|---|
Smell: | Alpine strawberry, blackberry jam, cassis, tobacco leaf, dried fall leaves, twigs, red licorice, spice, oak and chocolate covered cherry. |
Taste: | Blackberry juice, smoky blueberry, black cherry, cassis, black licorice, toasted tobacco leaf, cigar box and dark spice. |
Finish: | Incredibly long and very plush with medium tannins that give the wine a ton of structure on the palate. Eventually, dark fruits fade, ultimately replaced by drying, earthy flavors of dark spice, wood and tobacco. |
Pairing: | This bold and elegant wine shouts out for a thick, juicy steak, grilled to perfection. |
