Mission Codename Ruby Riches
Today’s Munselle Vineyards 2013 Osborne Ranch Zinfandel is a Super QPR (Quality to Price Ratio) wine that delivers a richness - and food-friendly finesse.
We’ve been featuring Munselle wines dating back to their 2006 vintage. You could say that we’re true fans.
The Osborn Ranch vineyard is also where Coppola Winery, De Lormier and others source fruit for their higher-end offerings. The ground beneath the Osborn Ranch vineyard consists of two feet of silty loam, with a gravely loam base that serves to drain the soil very thoroughly. This great drainage results in well-nourished and very well balanced vines.
Today’s wine is very fragrant on the nose, with balanced notes of blackberry pie, baked apple, smoked beef, bramble, dried fall leaves, subtle brown spice, grilled cherry and black pepper.
Flavors are savory and rich, with mixed berry compote, grilled cherry, grilled plum, toasted cedar, tart black cherry, rich mineral, savory herbs, dark spice and black pepper.
The acidity and balance make this wine an easy companion for most foods. We’ll be pairing ours with grilled meats, spaghetti carbonara or braised short ribs.
Decant for 30 minutes or more to get the most out of this budget-minded treat.
