Mission Codename To the moon!
It is a rare thing to find a 98 point wine. Rarer still, to find one for less than $20… but we have one for you today.
Today’s budget-priced Luna Vineyards 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon also won Best in Class, making it an easy choice. Reserve yours very soon, as we will sell out.
The nose is balanced and alive, with aromas of Bing cherry, red currant, pomegranate, sweet tobacco, toasty oak, mixed spice and hints of black and red licorice.
Flavors of black cherry, red current, dried cranberry and pomegranate take the lead. These are followed closely by mixed spice, cedar, bramble, young blackberry and black pepper.
This wine delivers a great deal of value. At less than $20, you’ll be well advised to stock up.
Decant for 30 minutes or more. The more you let the wine breathe, the more integrated and less angular it becomes. After some hearty swirling in the glass, or after some extended decanting, the wine softens and the fruit really shines through.
This wine is ready to drink now, but we’d cellar a few bottles - just to see how the wine progresses over the next year or two.
