Mission Briefing

Codename:

Satin & Silk

We have another great Chardonnay that absolutely smokes Rombauer. Today’s Miner Family Winery 2013 Napa Valley Chardonnay is an ultra silky, super delicious Chardonnay from winemaker, Gary Brookman.

Gary, who was winemaker for Joseph Phelps for 13 years, has spent the last two decades making elite-level wines that sell for more than $100. Today’s Chardonnay, at over 30% off, is a total steal!

Rich and full on the nose, with baked apple, sweet baking spice, honeydew, Asian pear, lemon blossom, caramel and toasty oak.

Silky on the palate, with flavors of lemon curd, lemon custard, vanilla, orange blossom, caramelized orange peel, baked Granny Smith apple, toasty oak and a hint of subtle white pepper.

This wine hails from the Oak Knoll District of the broader Napa Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area). Oak Knoll is located within Napa Valley AVA at the southern end of the valley floor. The appellation’s close proximity to San Pablo Bay results in a climate that is cooler and more moderate than any region in Napa Valley - other than the Los Carneros AVA - where Chardonnay and Pinot Noir thrive.

The Oak Knoll AVA has more area under vine than any other wholly contained appellation within the Napa Valley. The district is planted largely to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay. Oak Knoll was officially designated an appellation within the Napa Valley AVA on April 26, 2004.

It is worth noting that Miner wines have been served to US presidents and heads of state, for decades. Also, the Riedel Wine Glass Company exclusively uses Miner Family wines at its proprietary comparative glassware tasting events and at select events officially endorsed by the Riedel name in the United States.

We’re head over heels in love with this wine and we offer it to you with our very enthusiastic recommendation.

Tasting Profile

Look:

Beautiful, crystalline, medium golden color, with a springy surface that settles quickly after swirling the wine. Tall, thick legs move slowly down the glass wall.

Smell:

Baked apple, sweet baking spice, honeydew, Asian pear, lemon blossom, caramel and toasty oak.

Taste:

Lemon curd, lemon custard, vanilla, orange blossom, caramelized orange peel, baked Granny Smith apple, toasty oak and a hint of subtle white pepper.

Finish:

After a very silky, very plush entry, fruit, custard and spice wash across the whole palate. As initial fruits fade, a very soft dryness takes hold at the edges of the palate, very gradually drying the lips, tongue and cheeks.

Pairing:

We’ll be enjoying our bottles with roast chicken, fish, appetizer courses - or a holiday goose. Overall very food friendly and flexible.
