Tour de Monterey
Today’s wine was made by Scheid Vineyards, under their sister label Craftwork. This Craftwork 2013 Estate Grown Monterey Zinfandel is a budget-minded wonder that delivers a ton of value.
This wine was made by Scheid’s winemaker Dave Nagengast, at Scheid’s Monterey winery.
This Super QPR (Quality to Price Ratio) wine delivers incredible value. I recommend that you stock up on this one. You’ll want to keep plenty on hand for those Tuesday night dinners, or break some out for company. They’ll never know how little you spent on such a great bottle of wine!
This dandy zin is lively, lush and bold on the nose, with aromas of Bing cherry, baked apple, raspberry, strawberry, red currant, dark mixed spice, vanilla and black pepper.
Juicy flavors cascade onto the palate, with raspberry juice, black currant, blackberry, crushed violets, sweet spice, sweet oak, black pepper and a hint of cigar box.
Tasting Profile
Look: | Shimmery and perfectly translucent, with deep red hues at the core, bright pink at the glinting edges. |
---|---|
Smell: | Bing cherry, baked apple, raspberry, strawberry, red currant, dark mixed spice, vanilla and black pepper. |
Taste: | Raspberry juice, black currant, blackberry, crushed violets, sweet spice, sweet oak, black pepper and a hint of cigar box. |
Finish: | Fruit flavors give way to spice and cigar box notes in the long, plush, softly drying finish of this well-constructed Zin. |
Pairing: | It wouldn’t be a real Zinfandel if you couldn’t pair it with saucy BBQ, grilled burgers or a plate of ribs. This wine goes with all three- and much more. |
