Mission Briefing
Great Expectations
Today’s wine has a secret…
This delicious Pip Wines 2013 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir was made by Kenneth Juhasz, award-winning winemaker from Auteur and Dunstan - but that’s not the secret.
While doing some sleuthing, I’ve determined that today’s Pinot hails from the prized Durell Vineyard.
The Durell Vineyard is one of the most highly-prized vineyard sources in all of Sonoma County. Fruit from Durell Vineyard goes to ultra-premium labels such as Kistler, Chateau St. Jean, Chasseur, and Dunstan Auteur, and this very same fruit went into today’s wallet-friendly stunner.
Don’t miss out on this Super QPR (Quality to Price Ratio) and very highly recommended wine.
Tasting Profile
Look: | Dark, translucent dark maroon hues, with a wide band of pinkish purple at the edge. |

Smell: | Santa Rosa plum, grilled fig, India black tea, strawberry, black cherry, blackberry, vanilla, subtle oak and sweet spice. |
Taste: | Juicy Bing cherry, young blackberry, Alpine strawberry and cherry cordial, followed by vanilla, subtle spice, oak and a very soft hint of white pepper. |
Finish: | Juicy fruit flavors fade slowly as plush tannins usher spice and vanilla to the far corners of the palate. |
