Mission Codename Decade's Best
Today is your lucky day.
We have a doozy of a wine for you on this Super Spy Sunday: Father’s Day edition, the deep, elegant Romeo Vineyards 2012 Sempre Vive Napa Valley Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon.
This wine hails from the latest hit vintage, the incredible 2012. The last time we saw a vintage this superb, was the decade-high 2010. We all got very lucky with this vintage, as we normally see a full decade or more pass between such stellar vintages. In fact, the 2012 Napa Cabernet vintage was awarded a stratospheric 96 points (Wine Spectator Magazine) - making this wine one to stock up on.
As soon as you pour this wine into the glass, the aromas hit your nose - and that’s before you even lift the glass to take a whiff. Aromas of sweet raspberry, blackberry, black currant, plum, black tea, red licorice, black licorice, toasty oak and sweet spice.
Wow, what a rush on the palate! Bold and juicy and serious and elegant, all at once, with flavors of blackberry juice, black cherry preserve, wild mushroom, black licorice, toasted oak, easy sweet spice, plum, leather, dark chocolate and a hint of savory (yet delicious) tar.
Romeo Vineyards produced their first vintage in 1997. Since that time, the already old Cabernet Sauvignon vines have matured, but so too has the winery’s winemaking skills.
Today’s wine drinks incredibly well. There is plenty of juicy fruit and plenty of tannin, making this particular wine one that will age elegantly for a decade or longer.
If you are a father, like all of us here at Wine Spies HQ, we hope that you treat yourself to this delicious and elegant wine. Happy Father’s Day!
