Right-side up

Today’s Efeste 2013 “Upright” Klipsun Vineyards Red Mountain Merlot takes our top spot for a Washington state wine. With its fantastic fruit and elegant mouth feel, this 90 point Merlot deserves your careful consideration. We promise that you won’t be disappointed by this elegant, flavorful treat.

This wine hails from the Red Mountain AVA, which is the smallest Washington state American Viticultural Area. This 40 years young AVA is home to some of Washington state’s most prestigious vineyards, including Ceil du Cheval and Klipsun.

Incredibly fragrant on full on the nose with aromas of fresh blackberry jam, spiced strawberry, cassis, dark leather, mixed savory spice, cured meats, stewed fig and a hint of dried orange peel.

Boldly flavored, with layer after layer of goodness, leading with blackberry, black cherry and black currant, with river rock, dried meats, cherry bark, spice and black pepper.

About the Red Mountain AVA:

Red Mountain isn’t a mountain, nor is it red. This hill sits at the eastern end of the Yakima Valley appellation. Grapes that grow here are typically very expensive and prized for their power and concentration. Poor soil conditions stress the vines, while intense sunlight allows for the sort of even ripening that isn’t possible elsewhere in the state. Cool evenings help to bolster acidity. Overall, conditions here are great for overall balance.

We’re thrilled to offer you this wonderful - and very highly recommended wine at 41% off. Don’t miss out…

Here’s what the wine press has to say:

90 points - Sean P. Sullivan, Wine Enthusiast - “Aromas of savory herbs, mineral, exotic spice and red fruit are followed by fruit flavors that are surprisingly restrained considering the warmth of the vintage. Tart acidity livens it up. It’s green for the variety but still brings enjoyment.”

Tasting Profile

Look:

Deep and inky maroon, from the dark, nearly opaque heart of the wine out to the light-catching edges.

Smell:

Fresh blackberry jam, spiced strawberry, cassis, dark leather, mixed savory spice, cured meats, stewed fig and a hint of dried orange peel.

Taste:

Blackberry, black cherry, black currant, river rock, dried meats, cherry bark, spice and black pepper.

Finish:

Super long, with black fruits that outlast even the spice and earth elements. Very elegant at the end, with plush tannins spreading a nice dryness to the far corners of the palate.

Pairing:

For starters, try this great wine with grilled asparagus, wrapped with Spanish cured ham, a mixed-meats paella dish or your favorite winter stew.
