2012 Santa Rita Hills Chardonnay
California: Santa Barbara County: Sta. Rita Hills
The gleaming heart
If you loved our previous offering from this great winery, you’ll certainly love today’s crisp and refreshingly delicious St. Rita Hills Chardonnay.
This wine is a real standout in a crowd of California Chardonnays. No wonder, as this wine was made by the winemaking duo of Patrick Foley and Dave Ramey.
On the nose, bright mixed citrus notes are joined by lychee, white peach, pear, fennel frond, brioche and a hint of slate mineral. Crisp and delicious on the palate, with lemon, lime flower, orange blossom, pear, white peach, creamed honey, vanilla and a hint of minerality.
Patrick Foley studied winemaking in New Zealand, where he earned his Masters in Viticulture and Enology from Lincoln University. He then went to work for Nieto Senetiner as an enologist in Mendoza, Argentina for six months, as a crucial part of the winemaking team.
In 2013, Patrick moved back to California where he worked alongside award-winning Winemaker Leslie Renaud at Roth Estate Winery in Healdsburg. He worked as an enologist and later as a winemaker.
Today, he works with wine legend David Ramey to produce some extremely elegant and ultra quality wines.
Foley Johnson wines range in price from $45 to more than $150 a bottle - which makes today’s wine a true steal of a wine.
Light golden yellow hues with even coloration and perfect clarity from core to edge.
Lychee, white peach, pear, fennel frond, brioche and a hint of slate mineral.
Lemon, lime flower, orange blossom, pear, white peach, creamed honey, vanilla and a hint of minerality.
Long and lingering, with fresh citrus flavors yielding slowly to stone fruit, and slate minerals.
Enjoy this wine… all on it’s own. Yes, it is that delicious. You’ll also find this wine to be a great companion to everything from a plate of fresh fruits and cheeses to a roast chicken or sea bass. Or… you know… all on it’s own.
