Mission Briefing

Codename:

Pitch Perfect

We’ve been featuring the wines of Mayo Family Winery for nearly a decade. In that time we’ve tasted a lot of their wines.

We’re fond of their trademark Zinfandels and we’re particularly fond of their Ricci Vineyard Zin… which is why we’re doing cartwheels over today’s fantastic 2012 Ricci Vineyard Russian River Zin

Extra lush and super fragrant on the nose, with aromas of Bing cherry, spiced blackberry candy, Santa Rosa plum, spice box, blackberry tobacco, baker’s chocolate, bramble bush, soft cedar, toasty oak, vanilla bean and black pepper.

On the palate, incredibly delicious with juicy fruit flavors that are tempered by earthiness, spice and wood. Flavors of blackberry preserve, red currant, plum, tobacco, bramble bush, cocoa, hard cedar, spice box and black pepper.

Everyone on our tasting panel loves this wine, and here’s what Agent Red had to say about it:

“I’m so happy, today, dear Operative! After a long hiatus, Mayo Family Winery is finally back, and with one of my favorite wines, the _astonishingly delicious Mayo Family Winery 2012 Ricci Vineyard Russian River Valley Zinfandel.”

I absolutely love this wine, which simply hits all of the right Zinfandel notes. From its jammy fruit, to its zesty spice, this wine is one mouth-coating beauty of a beast. I recommend this wine very enthusiastically.”

Tasting Profile

Look:

Dark ruby red, with a dense garnet core. The springy surface of the wine settles quickly after swirling.

Taste:

Blackberry preserve, red currant, plum, tobacco, bramble bush, cocoa, hard cedar, spice box and black pepper.

Finish:

Soft and elegant on entry, then gradually grippy as plush, softly chewy tannins take hold, spreading a soft dryness across the palate.

Enjoy with your favorite BBQ, a backyard burger, or a juicy steak.
