Mission Codename The Grapetrotter
We continue our trek around the world with one of very favorite winemakers, the affable, talented Dave Phinney. Today’s Locations Wine treat takes us to Spain, with his stunning, Ultra QPR E4 Red Wine.
This wine is heady and very full on the nose, with aromatic spices, black cherry, black currant, plum, grilled plum, grilled cherry, sweetwood, dark chocolate, subtle molasses and oak.
Bold and delicious on the palate, with coating flavors of Bing cherry, spiced blackberry juice, tobacco leaf, flint mineral, exotic spice, darkly toasted oak, vanilla and dark chocolate and pink peppercorn.
The grape varietals of Grenache/Garnacha, Tempranillo, Monastrell and Carignan/Cariñena blended in this wine were sourced from Priorat, Jumilla, Toro, Rioja, and Ribera del Duero - making this blend a true representation of the cross-section of the noble Spanish wine grapes.
Dave Phinney makes magic with his Locations wines and today’s stands tall with the rest of his delectable collection.

Here’s what the wine press has to say:
Robert Parker, Wine Advocate - “Dave Phinney is one of the more creative young minds in all of the world’s winedom. He is doing things that are far beyond his modest age and deserves to be commended for the brilliant individuality/singularity of all of his efforts.
As of now, Dave Phinney might be my “value winemaker of the year” candidate. If there are better wines for under $20 a bottle in the world today, please share that information with the Wine Advocate.”
