This Super QPR wine receives our highest recommendation. Supply is limited.
Today’s Mr. Riggs 2013 “The Gaffer”” McLaren Vale Shiraz is a juicy wine with dark flavors of black fruit and berries, balanced with plenty of dense earthiness, spice and other delectable flavors. This wine was made by Australian winemaker Ben Riggs, who has become one of the country’s most respected winemakers.
Deep, dark and intriguing on the nose, with aromas of roasted blackberry, blackberry preserve, smoked blueberry, cassis and spice.
Flavors are bold and balanced, with grilled blackberry, blackberry preserve, smoked blueberry, cassis and spice, grilled cherry, baker’s chocolate, ripe plum, toasty oak and cedar, and a subtle (tasty!) tarryness.
Winemaker Ben Riggs has completed an astonishing 45 vintages flying around the world, chasing harvests, and making wines from top quality fruit all over the globe. His home court is most definitely in Australia’s McLaren Vale where he owns vineyards and produces his highly regarded Mr. Riggs wines.
Perhaps better known in Australia than the United States, Riggs is a legend. We love today’s Mr. Riggs 2013 “The Gaffer”” McLaren Vale Shiraz, a 100% varietal Shiraz with broad shoulders and an exciting, dark and juicy palate.
Enjoy!

What the wine press has to say:
92 points - Beverage Testing Institute - “Violet black color. Toasty aromas and flavors of chocolate mint, eucalyptus, and blackberry jam with a satiny, tangy, medium-to-full body and a graceful, amusing, medium-length finish with notes of nougat, peppery spice, and beet with silky tannins. A rich savory shiraz that will be great with food.”
Tasting Profile
Look: | Dark and inky with the darkest red one could imagine. A fine ring of dark garnet hugs the glass wall. |

Taste: | Grilled blackberry, blackberry preserve, smoked blueberry, cassis and spice, grilled cherry, baker’s chocolate, ripe plum, toasty oak and cedar, and a subtle (tasty!) tarryness. |
Finish: | Incredibly long, with flavors that cling to the palate seemingly forever. Black fruits eventually succumb to entropy, and earthy flavors of spice and toasty woods take over. |
Pairing: | Are you kidding! Surf & Turf all the way. Just make sure that the prawns are jumbo and the steaks are well-seasoned and darkly charred! |
