Mission Codename Wanderer
We first showed Dave’s Locations Argentina (AR-5) last year. Our tasting panel and our Operatives fell in love with the wine… but it sold out!
I’m pleased to announce Dave’s return to Argentina with the release of the Locations AR-6 - Argentinian Red Wine. This follow up is even more fruit forward and elegant than the AR-5.
This wine opens with a bushel of freshly picked, super ripe blackberries! These are followed by blueberry, raspberry jam, wild strawberry, plum, sweet chocolate, candied cranberry, violet, mild spice and a hint of savory pine.
Incredibly rich on the palate, with stewed blackberry, blueberry extract, dried mission fig, black cherry, darkest chocolate, molasses, European black licorice, bramble, softest spice, soft herbs and a hint of dark pine tar.
Dave’s Locations wines are something of a reset after Orin Swift’s prices have soared to the point of making them out of reach for many wine drinkers. Locations aims to deliver the best of the best of wines from all over the world, including Italy, Argentina, Portugal, Spain, France, Oregon - and others.
In case you haven’t yet caught on, we are absolutely wild about Dave Phinney’s Locations wines.
~
The previous vintage of this wine received a 95 point score. This latest vintage has not yet been rated, but we’re predicting that it receives a comparable score. Meanwhile, here is what Robert Parker has to say about Dave Phinney and his Locations wines:
Robert Parker, Wine Advocate - “Dave Phinney is one of the more creative young minds in all of the world’s winedom. He is doing things that are far beyond his modest age and deserves to be commended for the brilliant individuality/singularity of all of his efforts.
As of now, Dave Phinney might be my “value winemaker of the year” candidate. If there are better wines for under $20 a bottle in the world today, please share that information with the Wine Advocate.”
And here is that aforementioned 95 point score for the previous vintage:
95 points, Platinum Award Winner - Sommelier Challenge 2016 International Wine Competition - “Dave Phinney’s Locations project is off to a rousing start with this delicious blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s a lively glass that’s red fruit focused, with red currant, plum, black cherry and fall spice, with supple tannins, good grip and fine integration of flavors through the long finish. A great value that’s worth locating.”
