Mission Codename Franc and sense
Today’s Meadowcroft 2014 Giles Vineyard Sonoma Valley Cabernet Franc is a real score… a worthy Cabernet Franc indeed. Today’s food-fantastic delight is a soft, balanced and flavorful wine that delivers an elegant tasting experience - without sacrificing structure or delicious fruit.
We absolutely love great Cabernet Franc and we pride ourselves at having elevated the profile of this sometimes overlooked wine varietal. In fact, we’ve developed a substantial following for Franc among our very own Operatives - who are always on the lookout for any Franc that we feature.
Lush, bright aromas leap from the glass, with Bing cherry, cranberry, raspberry, sweet spice, loamy earth, chocolate covered cherry, sweet spice, and a hint of savory herb.
Rich and darkly layered on the palate, with flavors of stewed plum, blackberry compote, spice box, grilled fig, savory sage, baker’s chocolate, and bramble.
If you have not had the pleasure of sampling a true Cabernet Franc, this is a truly wonderful opportunity.
Cabernet Franc is Agent Red’s favorite single varietal wine. The reason that we don’t feature very many is not for lack of opportunity. Agent Red is just really really picky!
Here’s what the wine press has to say about this wine:
Bonnie Zimmerman, Wine Country This Week - “Meadowcroft released a very special limited release Cabernet Franc sourced from the Giles Vineyard and it is a stunner. The Giles vineyard is not a “traditional” style vineyard in the winemaking sense … the vines have never been trained or pruned so they ramble around the property even climbing up into the trees! The result is a wine of unbridled flavor and expression. Only 89 cases of this wine have been produced and it is selling out quickly.”
And here’s what the wine press had to say about the previous vintage:
Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast - “A 100% varietal wine, and the producer’s first vintage thereof, this is a juicy and leathery Cab Franc, soft and straightforward in plum and raspberry, with a layering of baking spice on the finish. Restrained, it’s a nice one for the table.”
