Mission Codename Who's your Scion?
We got lucky today, dear Operative!
Kelley & Young Wines gave us exclusive access to their flagship Zin, the incomparably delicious 2013 Robert Young Vineyard Alexander Valley Zinfandel. Fruit from this fabled vineyard find their way into wines from Chateau St. Jean, Clos du Bois, Duckhorn, and Simi, but it is Kelley & Young that gets the best of the best.
Robert Young Vineyards have been farming award-winning grapes in the Alexander Valley for 5 generations. This makes the Young family one of the oldest multi-generational grape growing and winemaking families in the nation. Their experience really shines through in all of their wines, but it is the Zinfandel fruit that has captivated the attention of wine lovers worldwide.
Today’s Zin is bursting with spicy, jammy aromas the leap from the glass, with blackberry preserve, cassis, spice box, baker’s chocolate, sweet oak, incense, chocolate covered cherry and black pepper.
On the palate this wine is bold and packed with flavors of black cherry, young blackberry, red currant, cranberry, mixed spice, cedar, baker’s chocolate, fresh bramble, oak and black pepper.
We only showcase Kelley & Young wines every few years here on Wine Spies, so today’s wine is truly a rare treat. Please accept today’s delicious offering with our very hearty recommendation.
