Mission Briefing
The Maus that roared
Welcome to another installment of our thrilling __Super Spy Sunday, where each Sunday we feature a higher-end wine, at a really terrific discount. Today’s wine is a stunning **52% off!.
Today’s Deering Wine 2011 Maus Vineyard Sonoma Valley Zinfandel is a big, juicy, delicious Ultra QPR of a wine that our whole tasting panel is simply giddy over. If you love rich, extracted, zinny Zins, this 91 point wine should be right up your alley. If you’ve never tasted a Deering wine, this is a great one to start with!
Abundant on the nose, with balanced aromas of blackberry jam, plum, raspberry, cherry bark, dusty bramble, spiced cherry candy, cocoa powder, toasty oak, vanilla and freshly cracked pepper.
Rich and layered, with delicious flavors of blackberry jam, blueberry preserve, raspberry, cassis, plum, cocoa, spice box, smoky cherry, cured beef, leather and cracked pepper.
We first featured Deering in 2013. Back then they became an instant hit with our Operatives. Unfortunately, this small-production winery usually sells all of their wine directly to wine club members, leaving very little for wine merchants like us.
Fortunately, Deering loves our Wine Spies Operatives (that’s you!) and they fling a few cases our way from time to time.
Today’s wine is very highly recommended.

Here’s what the wine press has to say:
91 points - Richard Jennings - “Deering Zinfandel Maus Vineyard: Reduction, tart berry, tart nose; tasty, tart berry, black raspberry palate; could use 1 year; medium-plus finish.”
~
Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast - “Juicy in a slightly overripe way, this sweet, plummy and jammy wine is soft and supple in broad tannins. On the finish, a combination of smoke and vanilla make their point.”
~
Gold Medal - 2014 San Francisco International Wine Competition.
