The Magic Mountain
The Solomon Hills Vineyard produces some of the most highly prized and most sought-after Chardonnay fruit in the Santa Maria Valley. This vineyard neighbors another famous Chardonnay vineyard; Bien Nacido.
Today’s Deovlet 2013 Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay is a wonderfully bright, fresh and delicious expression of Chardonnay from this wonderful vineyard.
This is one intriguing and exciting Chardonnay. Allow this wine to breathe and it really springs to life, delivering layered, complex flavors and aromas. It is easy to spend a long time with this wine, marveling at the complex flavors and deep aromas.
Bright, fresh and very lively, with aromas of lemon, yellow grapefruit, green apple, white peach, nectarine, toasty almond, yeasty baked bread, pear cobbler and a hint of soft white spice.
On the palate, the wine is bright, fresh and very flavorful, with flavors of lemon curd, yellow grapefruit, green apple, young pear, white peach, orange blossom and subtle white spice.
This is a very food friendly wine that is also a great solo-sipper. We recommend that you enjoy this wine all on its own, or with a pork roast with grilled apples, peaches and nectarines.
If you love round, fresh, elegant, and flavorful Chardonnay, today’s wine will not disappoint! Just be sure to grab some before we sell out. That would definitely disappoint!
What the wine press has to say:
91 points - Jeb Dunnuck, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate - “This was another fine set of releases from Ryan Deovlet - classic wines that have both richness and freshness. In addition, they show individual and distinctive character. Don’t make the mistake of skipping over the appellation wines in favor of the single vineyards as both his Santa Barbara Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were excellent.
Showing the fruit intensity and exotic quality of this vineyard, the 2013 Chardonnay Solomon Hills Vineyard has pretty lychee, citrus blossom and mint to go with a medium-bodied, pure, racy style on the palate. Seeing partial malo and 15 months in 15% new French oak, it’s classy white to enjoy over the coming 3-4 years.”
Bright sapphire yellow with perfect clarity and a springy surface that settles quickly after a swirl. Skinny legs cling to the glass, running slowly downward.
Lemon, yellow grapefruit, green apple, white peach, nectarine, toasty almond, yeasty baked bread, pear cobbler and a hint of soft white spice.
Lemon curd, yellow grapefruit, green apple, young pear, white peach, orange blossom and subtle white spice.
This wine has an incredibly long finish, with citrus and fruit flavors very gradually diminishing, gradually giving way to subtle spice, subtle yeasty bread and a hint of slate mineral.
Enjoy this wonderfully flexible wine with everything from soft cheeses and fruits, to herb roasted chicken, to Thai or Indian cuisine. We recommend that you enjoy this wine all on its own, or with a pork roast with grilled apples, peaches and nectarines.
