2013 “Bench Break” Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay
California: Santa Barbara County: Santa Maria Valley
Today’s Cambria Estate 2013 “Bench Break” Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay is a creamy, velvety, silky smooth wine that easily rivals some of the most sought-after California Chardonnay challengers.
At 36% off, this wine comes in at less than half the price of frenemy wines like Paul Hobbs, Duckhorn and even Rombauer,
This wine is sunny and fresh on the nose, with golden aromas of lemon custard, lemon drop candy, lime zest, white peach, apricot, green apple and subtle minerals.
Rich, elegant and dense with flavors of lemon curd, Meyer lemon, lime leaf, apricot, nectarine, green apple, slate mineral, pineapple and subtle white spice.
The Cambria Winery is a very special winery with deep Sonoma County roots. The winery is overseen by wine industry maven Barbara Banke, and operated day-to-day by the daughters of wine industry pioneer, Jess Jackson of Jackson Family Wines. Jess’ daughters, Katie Jackson and Julia Jackson, run day to day operations, keeping the family tradition alive.
This wine is very highly recommended!
Note: At the time of this wine’s creation, the “Bench Break” series was Cambria’s top-tier white. The winery has shuffled its labels around and now newer vintages bearing the Bench Break moniker are relegated to the lower tier. Today’s wine hailed from what was the winery’s top-tier at the time.
Light golden hues with perfect clarity. Solid, bouncy surface settles quickly when swirled, giving clues to the weight of the wine.
Lemon custard, lemon drop candy, lime zest, white peach, apricot, green apple and subtle minerals.
Lemon curd, Meyer lemon, lime leaf, apricot, nectarine, green apple, slate mineral, pineapple and subtle white spice.
After a soft, creamy entry, fine tannins grip the edges of the palate, causing the mouth to water as citrus flavors drive deeper into the corners of the mouth.
Enjoy this mouthwatering wine all on its own, or pair with appetizers, fruit and cheese, grilled salmon or a herb roasted chicken.
