How many angels...
When we were offered every last case of today’s 90 Point (Wine Enthusiast Magazine) Terlato Family Vineyards 2009 Angels’ Peak Red Wine, we leapt at the chance.
This darkly delicious wine is a rich, perfectly aged treat that, at today’s price, is a total steal! Current vintage is 2010, so this wine is just approaching its prime!
Terlato wines are hard to come by. The last time we showed one was back in 2013, when we sold out of their lovely Pinot Noir. Today’s wine reflects Anthony Terlato’s love for the families of Bordeaux and the legendary wines that they’ve produced - for generations. Anthony uses a selection of Bordeaux varietal grapes, predominantly Merlot, to craft his own legendary wine, Angels’ Peak.
On the nose, this wine is rich and dense, with aromas of blackberry compote, plum preserve, cassis, black cherry, sweet tobacco, sandalwood, dark chocolate, spice box and a hint of fennel.
Dark and foreboding on the palate, with rich flavors of braised plum, black cherry, grilled mission fig, tobacco leaf, chocolate covered blackberry, dark spice, cedar, cigar box, slate and black pepper.
Don’t miss out on this wonderful, aged-to-perfection wine from one of America’s oldest wine producing families. The Terlato’s have been wowing the wine world for four generations now. Their passion is apparent in ever sip of every Terlato wine.

Here’s what the wine press has to say:
90 points - Wine Enthusiast - “For maximum enjoyment, drink this almost all-Merlot blend now. It shows ripe, lush black-cherry, red currant, plum and bacon flavors that finish spicy and sweet tasting. The tannins are thick but smooth.”
Tasting Profile
Look: | Deep and inky, with garnet edges, and a slightly opaque crimson core. |
---|---|
Smell: | Blackberry compote, plum preserve, cassis, black cherry, sweet tobacco, sandalwood, dark chocolate, spice box and a hint of fennel. |
Taste: | Braised plum, black cherry, grilled mission fig, tobacco leaf, chocolate covered blackberry, dark spice, cedar, cigar box, slate and black pepper. |
Finish: | Very long, with spice that tapers off long before the dark fruits do. This is a unique characteristic and it is one that our tasting panel really marveled at. Plush and firm at the end with medium tannins that add grip and accentuate the slate minerality. |
Pairing: | Enjoy this wonderfully rich wine with an elegant steak, a dark pot roast, a pile of spare ribs or even a simple backyard burger. This wine is as flexible as it is delicious. |
