When our friends at KJ offered us today’s Kendall-Jackson 2012 Hawkeye Mountain Vineyard Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, we just couldn’t resist. This 92 point(Robert Parker) wine is one of the winery’s very finest Cabs. Richness, elegance and deep favors all add to the appeal of this stunning gem.

This limited release wine hails from the 2012 vintage, which is one of the finest on record in recent memory. Now that the supply of the blockbuster 2010s is dwindling, we’re seeking out exceptional 2012s.

Today’s wine is super rich and very delicious. We love the dense feel and concentrated flavors of this beautiful beast.

Dark, sweet and mysterious on the nose, with evolving aromas that increase in intensity and and complexity as the wine breathes. Aromas of chocolate covered cherry, blackberry preserve, black cherry, plum preserve, grilled fig, molasses, bacon wrapped date, cigar box and mixed spice.

Bold, dark and juicy on the palate, with flavors of blackberry preserve, plum jam, grilled fig, spice box, cigar box, caramelized sugar, baker’s chocolate, plum skin, dark spice, black currant, black licorice, slate and black pepper.

The finish is incredibly long, ending in a dry, chewy, plush feeling that spreads across the palate.

The winery calls this wine ‘muscularly elegant’, and we get it. One sip of this wine tells you that this is a bold, serious wine… with an intriguing soft side. Bold tannins give the wine its bold, chewy feeling, while the dark, pretty fruits add elegance.
