Mission Briefing

Codename:

Abbondanza!

We’ve got a really special treat for you today, the Arbor Bench 2010 Dry Creek Valley Estate Grown Malbec.

This wine was made by former Clos du Val winemaker, Christopher Markell. This super aromatic wine is a Super QPR steal that is yours… if you hurry.

Bold and very aromatic on the nose, with aromas of blackberry jam, anise seed, fennel frond, freshly cut walnut plank, blueberry, cassis, sweet spice and toasty oak.

Very juicy and very flavorful, with flavors of blueberry juice, blackberry preserve, black licorice, cedar, cassis, spice box, red licorice, raisin, subtle burnt sugar and black pepper.

Winemaker Chris Markell has worked in the wine trade for the last 36 years. In that time, Chris has made wines all around the world. After leaving Clos du Val, Chris headed up winemaking operations at Taltarni Vineyards… which was owned by Clos Du Val’s owner, John Goelet. Today, Chris places all of his attention on crafting superb, well-priced wines from our new friends, Arbor Bench.

Arbor Bench grapes can be found in the finest wines from the other Clos, Clos du Bois. They’re not the only wineries though that are smart enough to source grapes from Arbor Bench. That list also includes Dry Creek Vineyard, Kendall-Jackson, Rodney Strong Vineyards and Gloria Ferrer. Arbor Bench as been crafting its own wines since 2005.

Very highly recommended.

Tasting Profile

Look:

Darkest garnet, with wide, sanguine edging. Settles quickly when swirled.

Smell:

Blackberry jam, anise seed, fennel frond, freshly cut walnut plank, blueberry, cassis, sweet spice and toasty oak.

Taste:

Blueberry juice, blackberry preserve, black licorice, cedar, cassis, spice box, red licorice, raisin, subtle burnt sugar and black pepper.

Finish:

After a silky, juicy entry, this wine becomes quickly grippy, adding a plush dryness that spreads throughout the palate, culminating in a softly chewy feel.

Pairing:

Fuggedaboutit! This wine requires your best Italian fare. We’ll enjoy ours with a big plate of tagliatelle with a tomato ragu, spicy Italian sausage, ground beef, chunky tomatoes, sliced sweet peppers and roughly cut mushrooms. Abbondanza!
