Mission Codename Like a rock...
Today’s wine has a juicy secret… We can’t tell you the whole thing, but here is what we can tell you:
The grapes that were used in today’s wine were also used by another wine label. That winery submitted their wine for reviews - and got back a whopping 97 point score. That’s all that we’re allowed to say, but you can infer the rest…
Winemaker Dan Fitzgerald is prolific! And, oh my, is he great at his job! Our latest Dan-made wine is today’s Gold Medal winning Petrified Forest Vineyards 2012 Totem Ridge Vineyard Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
We’re one of the only wine merchants to have this wine today, and our price can’t be beat - so be sure to stock up, it which will age beautifully over the next several years.
Beautifully fragrant and layered with lush aromas of blackberry, blueberry preserve, baker’s chocolate, twig, cherry bark, blackberry tobacco leaf, subtle sweet spice, black licorice, flinty mineral and a hint of peppercorn.
Oh, that Knight’s Valley terroir! The palate is loaded with dark, dense flavors of black cherry, cherry bark, braised plum, grilled meats, ripe blackberry, spice box, cigar box, black pepper, black licorice and flint.
The Knights Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area), in Sonoma County, California, is one of Sonoma County’s initial five American Viticultural Areas. Formally designated an American Viticultural Area on October 21, 1983, the area includes approximately 38,000 acres, 2000 of which are planted to wine grapes.
The region is the easternmost AVA, and it enjoys the warmest climate, in the county. The Knights Valley lies between the Alexander Valley AVA and Chalk Hill AVA wine regions to the west and the Mayacamas Mountains to the east. The appellation separates the rest of Sonoma County from the Napa Valley AVA - which lies to the east.
Very highly recommended!

Here’s what the wine press has to say:
Gold Medal - 2016 Sunset International Wine Competition - “Don’t fear the herbs. This savory wine has a beautiful green olive and fresh herb character in small amounts, adding great complexity.”
