Rhapsody in Ruby
Welcome to another Super Spy Sunday. Each Sunday we bring you a superior, high end wine at a very special, Operative-only price. Today’s wine is a doozy of a deal from one of our favorite producers, Singer Cellars.
The Wines of Singer Cellars have proven to be real hits with our Operatives. Today, we are proud to be featuring their flagship Cabernet, the juicy, balanced Singer Cellars 2014 “Song” Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
This wine shows off impeccable fruit, earth and spice, all working together in a perfect interplay of aroma and flavor.
This wine is heady and lively on the nose, with aromas of black cherry, spiced cherry candy, blackberry juice, cocoa, red licorice, red currant, spice box, and bramble.
On the palate, the wine initially presents as dark and serious. Then, as it opens up, fresh fruits give the wine nice balance. Powerful flavors of black cherry, cassis, and blueberry are balanced by cocoa powder, black licorice, spice, bramble, braised cherry and a hint of black pepper.
Very highly recommended.

Here’s what the wine press has to say:
94 points - “Sommelier to the Stars” Christopher Sawyer - “With a deep opaque color, this elegant red wine opens up with sultry aromas of ripe berries, red fruits, leather, tobacco, and allspice. On the palate, the generous flavors of briary blackberry, dark plum, boysenberry and chocolate are complemented with a burst of vibrant acidity, firm tannins, and a silky texture.”
Tasting Profile
Look: | Dark purple hues at the slightly opaque core of the wine, garnet at the edges. |
---|---|
Smell: | Black cherry, spiced cherry candy, blackberry juice, cocoa, red licorice, red currant, spice box, and bramble. |
Taste: | Black cherry, cassis, and blueberry are balanced by cocoa powder, black licorice, spice, bramble, braised cherry and a hint of black pepper. |
Finish: | After the initial delicious rush of powerhouse flavors, earthy flavors give the wine balance. Gradually, a plush dryness encroaches from the edges, drying as it moves across the palate. |
Pairing: | As the winery itself suggests, we think that a juicy Filet Mignon would be ideal with this gorgeous wine. |
