Mission Codename Raising the Bar(low)
Today’s wine is *very highly recommended. While this wine received a very respectable 93 point score, we believe it deserves an even higher score.
We haven’t shown a Barlow wine since 2013, so we’re super excited to bring you their elegant, rich and layered Barlow Vineyards 2013 Calistoga Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine was the smash hit of our recent tasting panel, with each agent declaring their love for this great wine. Don’t miss out!
This wine is very deep and super rich on the nose, with blackberry jam, black cherry compote, boysenberry, spice box, leather, cigar box, black currant, pencil shavings, and dark chocolate. Super dark, with concentrated flavors of blackberry, braised blueberry, black cherry, graphite, toasty oak, black currant, baker’s chocolate, and dark spice.
This wine hails from the Calistoga AVA, a sub-appellation of the Napa Valley AVA, situated at the northern end of the Napa Valley. The soils here are almost exclusively volcanic and the temperature swings are enormous, with 100 degree days cooled by the breezes that come off of the Russian River Valley AVA to the west. In fact, Calistoga enjoys the highest diurnal temperature variation in the entire Napa Valley - which places wonderful stress on the grapes that grow here - making for wines that are darker, richer and more flavorful.
