Of Mice and Pinot
We’re very pleased today, to bring you another wine made by the wine masterminds at Scheid Winery, the delectable, irresistible, Metz Road 2015 Estate Grown Monterey Riverview Vineyard Pinot Noir. This wine hails from Scheid’s own special Riverview Vineyard, whose unique character is imparted in this delicious Pinot.
Oh, Central Coast Pinot Noir, how we love you. Your aromas remind us of Burgundy, while your flavors remind us of the Russian River Valley. Today’s wine exudes lush aromas, with ripe black cherry, red currant, dried orange peel, soft spice, dried wild mushroom, subtle gunpowder, and subtle toasty oak.
And what about that palate? Terrifically juicy and rich, with dense flavors of bing cherry, red currant, pomegranate, dried cranberry, dried orange peel, soft spice, dried earth, and softly toasted oak.
“A few miles south of Soledad, the Salinas River drops in close to the hillside bank and runs deep and green.” So begins John Steinbeck’s powerful novel Of Mice and Men. In the opening paragraph, he writes of the river, the golden foothill slopes, and the strong and rocky Gabilan mountains. In writing these words in 1937, Mr. Steinbeck described the future site of Riverview Vineyard.
Riverview Vineyard is Scheid’s northernmost vineyard in Monterey County. Located two miles southeast of Soledad and adjacent to the Pinnacles, this 215-acre vineyard is nestled on a bench overlooking the Salinas River and is an ideal site for ultra-premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The bench location aids in creating excellent air flow and the southwestern exposure maximizes available sunlight and allows the fruit to ripen slowly and evenly. The soils are well-drained and comprised of decomposed granite.
Please enjoy this very special, highly recommended - and very specially priced Pinot Noir - with our best wishes. This is one fantastic wine!
Pale ruby at the core of the wine, with just a touch of opacity. At the edge, gleaming red.
Ripe black cherry, red currant, dried orange peel, soft spice, dried wild mushroom, subtle gunpowder, and subtle toasty oak.
