Life's too short...
Life is too short to drink bad wines, so treat yourself - and drink one of the best, most intriguing wines we’ve tasted in a long time, today’s Robert Young Estate Winery 2013 Scion Alexander Valley Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon.
We’re very grateful to Robert Young Estate Winery, for allowing us the special opportunity to showcase they phenomenal flagship blend, the incomparable 2013 Scion Alexander Valley Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon. We’re the only online wine merchant authorized to sell this rich, delicious treat of a wine.
Heady and perfumed, with layered, complex, dense aromas of grilled cherry, India black tea leaf, cardamom, nutmeg, pencil shavings, spice box, bay laurel tree, caramelized sugar and a hint of pine. Rich, complex and bold, with flavors of grilled plum, braised black cherry, smoked meats, black licorice, cassis, graphite, darkly toasted oak and mixed dark spice.
Our history with today’s winery dates back to our founding in 2007, as chronicled by Agent Red, here:
“I am very excited, as today marks my return to the very first winery that I visited after founding The Wine Spies. Back in 2007 I was a nervous young Agent - but I had resolved to kick down any winery door that I could, in search of great wines for our burgeoning cadre of Operatives. My inaugural visit with Robert Young Estate Winery was an eye-opening experience. I spent an entire afternoon with the winery, getting to know them and their absolutely fantastic wines. This visit set the tone for all of my future winery visits. I decided, then, that I would approach every subsequent visit with the same zeal. It became my mission to really delve into every wine and winery that we would feature. Nearly ten thousand wines later, me and my team remain as dedicated as ever to this mission.”
Darkest purple - almost black - in the glass. When you spin this wine in the glass, the inside of the glass is stained purple!
Grilled cherry, India black tea leaf, cardamom, nutmeg, pencil shavings, spice box, bay laurel tree, caramelized sugar and a hint of pine.
Grilled plum, braised black cherry, smoked meats, black licorice, cassis, graphite, darkly toasted oak and mixed dark spice.
Initially soft on entry, then very quickly grippy as medium firm tannins add grip and dryness all across the palate.
A wine this rich and dark needs to be paired with something its equal, like a lamb stew with cracked green olives and orange zest.
