Mission Codename Running on Fumés
We’ve been selling Grgich Hills Estate wines for almost a decade now. Without a doubt, their wines are among the most popular with our thirsty Operatives. Today’s Grgich Hills Estate 2015 Napa Valley Fumé Blanc Estate Grown Dry Sauvignon Blanc was the smash hit of our recent tasting panel - and it’s yours… while it lasts.
Beautiful clarity with a light color that approaches peridot. Wonderful bright nose with subtle citrus that is subsumed by notes of pear and apple. A bit of tropical fruit makes an appearance as well. Floral notes of elderflower can be discerned, along with an interesting cardamom spice note. Ripe green apple with a nuanced sur lees character is reminiscent of an apple pie.
There is much more stone fruit on the palate than on the nose: The apricot and peach flavors take center stage just before the finish which reveals lychee and guava notes that continue to dance at the back of the tongue long after the wine is swallowed. Bright acids immediately engulf the front of the palate crescendoing into a tapered finish that lingers pleasantly at the back of the throat. All around very approachable mouthfeel. This wine is a wonderful way to begin an evening of entertaining, starting with a charcuterie plate and hard cheeses.
This wine is very, very highly recommended.
