Mission Codename Busójárás!
Welcome to our latest Super Spy Sunday, where each Sunday we endeavor to bring you a super high-end wine - at a super low low price. Today, we deliver the goods with an Operative-favorite winery, Kukeri. Today’s 2015 Yountville Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon hails from one of the sweetest spots in the Napa Valley…
Darkly juicy on the palate, with blackberry preserve, blueberry jam, boysenberry, soft spice, toasty oak, baker’s chocolate, dried fall leaves, flinty mineral and subtle cracked pepper. Long and dark, with flavors that coat the palate. Slowly, medium tannins take hold, spreading a soft dryness to the far corners of the palate.
Some of the most exclusive and sought-after wines in the Napa Valley come from the Yountville AVA (American Viticultural Area). Today’s wine is made from grapes grown at the [REDACTED] Winery (sorry, we’ve been sworn to secrecy), which, in part, explains why this wine is so excellent.
So, exactly who grows and makes wines in Yountville? Some of the best names, like Kapcsandy Family Winery, Lial Vineyards, Hoopes Vineyard, Domaine Chandon, Blankiet Estate, Scarecrow and others. Did the grapes from today’s wine come from one of these prestigious wineries? If we told you, well, you know…
All that you need to know about today’s wine is that we here at Wine Spies HQ are all wild about it!

Here’s what the wine press has to say:
93 Points - Christopher Sawyer - ” Location, location, location. When you mention Yountville to wine lovers and foodies, the first thing that usually comes to mind is The French Laundry and all the magnificent restaurants located in the charming downtown area of this small city north of Napa. But behind the scenes, the secret to the success of this region is how well Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux grape varieties have performed in the diverse soils and moderate-to-warm temperatures that have become the trademark of the Yountville appellation.
For an expressive example, try the Kukeri 2015 Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon. With an opulent purple hue, the wine features enchanting aromas of ripe berry cobbler, wild lavender, leather, tobacco and a wisp of freshly baked brioche. On the palate, the deep, rich and sophisticated flavors of black raspberry, huckleberry, dark cherry and ripe plum are interlaced with nuances of cocoa, clove, mint and toasted oak. These distinct flavors are balanced with a round, supple texture; firm tannins; and a luxurious finish. The end result is a well-crafted wine that is young, powerful and assertive, yet very complex, elegant and a pleasure to sip—especially as it opens up in the glass. Only two barrels produced of this magnificent limited-edition wine.
Food pairing suggestions: hard cow’s milk cheeses, charcuterie, grilled vegetables, pan-seared duck breast with wild berry compote, barbequed chicken, black forest ham, prime rib, and slow-cooked stews.”
