Lang & Reed
2013 North Coast Cabernet Franc
California: North Coast
At Lang Last
Congratulations, Lang & Reed for winning this year’s Wine Intrigue Award for Top Cabernet Franc! This wine is the finest and best-loved Franc that we’ve featured all year. We love it so much that we convinced the winery to part with every last case in their cellar. They’re yours, Operative… until we sell out.
Lang & Reed has been getting so much attention, from wine drinkers like you and me, and from the wine press. We’re so proud to be able to showcase their wines and today we’re showing their Lang & Reed 2013 North Coast Cabernet Franc.
This wine is a Franc-lover’s dream. It has brightness, fruit and feel!
Agent Red, who has personally vetted all of the thousands of wines that we’ve sold over these last ten years, is a huge fan of Cabernet Franc. Why does he love it so? Well, Cabernet Franc, when done right, is the most food friendly, delectable and easy drinking varietal there is.
Unfortunately, really great Cab Franc is hard to come by. Unless you shop with The Wine Spies, that is. We’ve been chasing Lang & Reed for years now, but today is the day that we’re finally featuring their much revered Cabernet Franc.
What took us so long? They’ve always been sold out!
Our begging paid off, though, as they’ve given us a small allocation of their rather stupendous 2013 North Coast Cabernet Franc. This wine is a steal, so reserve yours while you can!
This wine is super fragrant, with big aromas jumping from the glass upon pouring. Black cherry, red current, raspberry, spice box, subtle dried herb and a hint of dark chocolate.
Dark and juicy on the palate, with blackberry compote, grilled cherry, cranberry, mission fig, pencil shavings, cigar box, black licorice, subtle spice and slate mineral.
This wine is guaranteed to please.
Extra dark maroon, with a wide ruby ring at the rim.
Black cherry, red current, raspberry, spice box, subtle dried herb and a hint of dark chocolate.
Blackberry compote, grilled cherry, cranberry, mission fig, pencil shavings, cigar box, black licorice, subtle spice and slate mineral.
Long and plush, with a crushed velvet dryness that encroaches as fruits fade. At the end, licorice, slate and graphite coat the tongue, never seeming to fade completely.
Cabernet Franc is prized for its food-friendliness and flexibility. This wine is no exception to that rule, but the dark flavors lend especially well to darker, grilled meat dishes, like a grilled Porterhouse.
