Mission Codename Anadromous Bosch
Previous vintages of this wine were named by your fellow Operatives as their Top Red Blend of the Year. Today’s 2013 hails from the best vintage yet. Our entire tasting panel was enamored by today’s Coho Wines 2013 Headwaters Napa Valley Red Wine. We spent a long time pulling this one apart, espousing its many virtues!
2012 was a great vintage, to be sure, but, wow… the 2013s are knocking it out of the park!
This wine has a gorgeous inky dark garnet core encircled by a band of ruby red. This blend opens up with a nose of cherry, pomegranate, and cranberry with green almond nuance and a bit of red peppercorn. The flavor profile is intense and brooding, with hickory, cherry, plum, seared steak with a balanced smokiness that plays a welcome supporting role. It’s a very well balanced entry from Coho, with supple, gracious tannin and harmony between fruit, sugar, and acid. It plays out well on the palate and long after you swallow for a great finish. It may be cliché, but the best pairing for this wine is a perfectly prepared cut of top sirloin.
Stock up on this very age-worthy beauty!

Here’s what the wine press has to say.
90 Points - Vinous - “The 2013 Red Blend Headwaters is plump, juicy and full of near-term appeal. Raspberry jam, pomegranate, sweet spices and leather are all bold and up-front in this supple, open-knit red blend.”
